The future places increasingly greater demands on efficiency at different levels. To meet future challenges, broad skills in innovation and design are needed. In this interdisciplinary programme you will develop your knowledge of innovation management, design processes and the importance of communication in innovation and design, taking into account sustainability and how innovation and design affects users and organisations. On completion of your studies you will have the opportunity to work for example as a project manager or an innovation manager.

The Programme

The programme is a two-year international programme at second-cycle level. The programme is interdisciplinary, combining subjects such as engineering science, social science and the humanities, but also perspectives taken from the world of art. You will gain both theoretical and practical skills in innovation management, design processes and communication in complex organisations.

You will acquire knowledge of innovation processes for the development of services and products, and the courses within the programme will help you to develop your ability to work in interdisciplinary projects with both national and international organisations.

In the programme you will be working in close collaboration with regional employers from different industries, who are also global leaders within their respective branches, such as ABB, Bombardier and Volvo. Collaboration also takes place with the public sector at the municipal, regional and national levels.

Working with current challenges and real-life problems will guarantee that the programme is relevant and that there is a clear link to the labour market. In several of the programme’s courses the students cooperate with external organisations in different projects. In addition, several of the courses have a clear link to the research conducted in Innovation and Product Realisation (IPR) at the University, and the students take an active part in our prototype workshops, digital cooperation platforms and our Living Lab.

Employment and Future Prospects

After your studies you will have a deeper understanding of key concepts and theories in innovation and design, and will have specialised within your own field of interest. You will be able to lead and participate in international projects with different types of organisations from several branches of industry. Thanks to the breadth and individual depth of the programme you will be well prepared for managerial posts in the private and public sectors. Possible future professions could be project managers, innovation managers, research and development managers, product developers or designers. You will also be able to pursue a career as a researcher in academia.
