The Student Ombudsman – your support during your studies

The Student Ombudsman is tasked to guide you as a student if you have problems during your studies. Support is available on questions about the University's laws and regulations and your rights and obligations as a student.

Please contact the Student Ombudsman if you have questions and need advice on rules, rights and obligations within the framework of your education and study period. The questions can concern grading or treatment from teachers and other staff members for example.

This is what the Student Ombudsman can do for you as a student

  • listen to and discuss questions that concern the University’s activities
  • provide support and guidance regarding the rights and obligations of students
  • help students who experience discrimination
  • advise students who have been reported to the Disciplinary Board.

The role of the Student Ombudsman is neutral and impartial in relation to the University and students. This means that the Student Ombudsman cannot pursue matters on behalf of students and cannot take sides.

Have you been discriminated against?

MDU has zero tolerance towards discrimination and harassment. The University is obliged to investigate harassment and victimisation as soon as the University becomes aware that it has occurred. Discrimination refers to a disadvantage or violation that can be linked to one of the seven grounds for discrimination:

  • gender
  • transgender identity or expression
  • ethnic origin
  • religion or other beliefs
  • disability
  • sexual orientation
  • age.

Submit a report about discrimination

If you believe that you have been discriminated against, you may file a report.

If you want support during the process, you can contact the Student Ombudsman. Remember that a report is not always protected by confidentiality and maybe a public document. If you want to discuss your situation confidentially, please contact Student Health Care or your study counsellor.
