Course syllabus - Introduction to Industrial Production and Logistics

Objectives

The course aims to give students a good introduction to the subject area Industrial production and logistics and a common basis for further studies at advanced level in Product and process development, with a focus on Production and logistics.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, the student should be able to: 
1. Describe production systems from a systems theory perspective. 
2. Calculate and interpret the most common key figures for the performance in production and its support functions logistics, quality and maintenance. 
3. Map a production system and identify and quantify the system's losses 
4. Perform root cause analyzes and simpler investment assessments Use basic techniques for forecasting, scheduling, material management and production planning.

Specific requirements

A Bachelor's degree within the area of technology/engineering, including 15 credits in mathematics/applied mathematics. n addition, Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish B/Swedish 3

Examination

Written assignment 1 (INL1), 1 credit, examinees the learning outcomes 1 and 2, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Written assignment 2 (INL2), 2 credits, examinees the learning outcomes 3 and 4, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)
Written assignment 3 (INL3), 2 credits, examinees the learning outcome 5, marks Fail (U) or Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
