Course syllabus - Supply Chain Management

Objectives

The purpose of the course is to provide a deeper understanding of the field of Supply Chain Management from a production perspective. The aim of the course is to provide in-depth discussion and knowledge about the design and development of supply chains as well as the ability to analyze the consequences of its design. The course also aims to provide practice in academic writing through the preparation of a scientific article.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course the student should be able to: 
1. Explain how supply chains can be designed and developed. 
2. Analyze and describe the impact of supply chains on the production system and its performance. 
3. Provide insight into how sustainability aspects can be reflected and analyzed in the design and development of supply chains 
4. Discuss relevant global trends and technological developments and analyze their impact on supply chains and its development. 
5. Demonstrate the ability to synthesize previous research in an academic text.

Course content

Supply Chain Management, its concepts, tools and development. 
Design, development and analysis of supply chains. 
Global trends, challenges and strategies as well as technological development linked to the Supply Chain Management area 
Sustainability aspects and development linked to Supply Chain Management 
Methods and implementation for the preparation of a scientific article, including literature search and academic writing.

Specific requirements

22.5 credits from completed courses within production and logistics on advanced level of which a minimum of 7.5 credits within production and logistics planning. In addition Swedish course B/Swedish course 3 and English course A/English course 6 are required. For courses given entirely in English exemption is made from the requirement in Swedish course B/Swedish course 3.

Examination

Assignment (INL1), 2 hp, examines learning outcomes 1-5, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G)  
Assignment (INL2) Scientific paper, 4 hp, examines learning outcomes 1, 4 and 5, grade Fail (U), 3, 4 or 5 
Seminar (SEM1), Seminar series, 1,5 hp,  examines learning outcomes 1, 2, 3 and 4, grade Fail (U) or Pass (G)

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
