Master's programme in Innovation and Design, 120 credits

A broad competence in innovation and design is necessary to deal with the challenges of our time. In this programme you will develop both specialist theoretical knowledge and practical skills for interacting in global projects and organizations, always taking into account sustainability and how innovation and design affects the entire organisation and its users.

The Programme

The Master’s programme in Innovation and Design is a two-year international programme at second-cycle level. The programme is multidisciplinary, combining engineering, the social sciences and the humanities, as well as perspectives drawn from the arts. You will develop both theoretical and practical skills in innovation management, design processes and communication in complex organisations. You will acquire knowledge of innovation processes for the development of services and products. The courses within the programme will help you to develop your capacity for multidisciplinary collaboration, both nationally and internationally. Throughout the programme, you are also encouraged to define your own specialization area within the field of innovation and design.

The programme has been developed in collaboration with stakeholders outside academia. A majority of the courses in the programme involve collaboration with companies and organizations outside the University, such as the Municipality of Eskilstuna, Volvo CE and ABB. In the programme you will also work with qualitative research methods and take an active part in our prototype workshops, digital cooperation platforms and our Living Lab.

Employment and Future Prospects

After your degree, you will have a deeper understanding of key concepts and theories in innovation and design, and will have specialised within your own field of interest. The wide-ranging programme content will give you a solid advantage in securing an academic research career and also prepare you for qualified management work in the private and public sectors. Possible future professions could be project managers, innovation managers, research and development leaders, product developers or designers.
