About me - Louise Sund

Louise Sund is an experienced upper secondary school teacher, teacher educator, and researcher at Mälardalen University’s School of Education, Culture and Communication. She is a member of the research group SMED (Studies of Meaning-Making in Educational Discourses), a cross-university research group in the field of didactics and educational science at Örebro University and the research group Studies on Social Sustainability in Education (SOS-ED) at Mälardalen University.

Louise has an interest in environmental and sustainability education and global citizenship education. Her PhD research took its point of departure in the change of emphasis in the field of environmental and sustainability education towards the inclusion of social and human development issues. The focus of her current research project is to empirically investigate the challenges that teachers face when addressing global equity and justice issues in their classrooms and identify how this work can be developed and supported.

Louise is a regular reviewer for a number of international journals such as Environmental Education Research, Journal of Curriculum Studies, Journal of Moral Education, and Journal of Integrative Environmental Sciences. She is also a co-convenor and reviewer for network Environmental and Sustainability Education Research for the European Conference on Educational Research. She is a regular presenter at this conference having presented there since 2012.

Global issues in reflective teaching practices

The focus of her current research project is to empirically investigate the challenges that teachers face when addressing global equity and justice issues in their classrooms and identify how this work can be developed and supported.

In this scientific research network, scholars at Ghent University (BE), University of Leuven (BE), Södertörn University (SE), University of Gdańsk (PO), Uppsala University (SE), Aarhus University (DK), Örebro University (SE) and Rhodes University (SA) share a scientific research interest in the relation between education and societal transformation. They want to deepen and widen our understanding of the public role of education in the face of sustainability challenges, nourish and facilitate further theoretical and empirical research and foster much-needed interdisciplinary collaboration of political theorists, educational theorists and sustainability education researchers.

Louise teaches in the Teacher Education Programmes and in the Master's programme in Educational Sciences. She also supervises independent student projects and theses in these programmes
