van der Monde varieties

__Abstract:__

This is joint work with Boris Shapiro. Our starting point was a theorem by Sholem-Mahler-Lech on recurrence sequences. This lead us to study some determinantal varieties, defined by matrices of generalized van der Monde type. We study invariants of these varieties. As an application we get some relations among Schur polynomials.

Extensions of color hom-Lie algebras

__Abstract:__

In this seminar, we talk about the notion of color hom-lie algebras. We start by introducing some useful tools that we are going to use. After that, we characterize an extension of a color hom-Lie algebra by another color hom-Lie algebra h and we discuss some particular cases. We also deal with the setting of covariant exterior derivatives, Chevalley derivative, Maurer-Cartan formula, curvature and the Bianchi identity for the possible extensions in differential geometry.

__Title:__

How Eigenvalues Solve Polynomial Equation Systems

__Abstract:__

The subject of this talk is the use of Gröbner bases for solving polynomial equation systems.

Solving polynomial equation systems is fundamentally a problem in algebraic geometry, and as such striding the algebra--geometry dualism of this subject. Classical methods tend to lean heavily on the algebra side, treating equation solving primarily as a matter of finding better equations for describing the solution set; Gaussian elimination is definitely a matter of this, and there is a tradition of using Gröbner bases like that as well. Elimination orders do however often lead to (more) computationally expensive Gröbner basis calculations, which can make them impractical.

An alternative approach, which turns out to make readily available the coordinates of solution points, is to instead focus on the quotient algebra. On the one hand, any Gröbner basis can be utilised to perform effective calculations in the quotient. On the other hand, the quotient algebra has a geometric interpretation as the algebra of functions on the solution variety, which can be used to for example locate the points of that variety. Numerical approximations can be found through eigenvalue/eigenvector calculations, the practical stability and implementation efficiency of which has been thoroughly studied in recent decades.

Probabilistic models of construction materials

__Abstract:__

It is important to provide construction materials durability during their life cycle. Properties of the construction materials depend on various factors like temperature, humidity, pressure, etc. These factors change the values of stresses and deformations randomly. The stochastic pattern of the structural elements distribution should be taken into account. We formulate some engineering problems that require probabilistic modeling.

__Abstract:__

Radford biproduct is one of the celebrated objects in Hopf algebra theory. In this talk, we mainly present the structure of Radford biproduct Hopf algebra, then investigate the connection with Yetter-Drinfeld category. At last, we introduce the notion of Rota-Baxter bialgebra, whose example can be constructed by Radford biproduct Hopf algebra.
