On 23 and 24 April MDH held their Academic Ceremony. During the Thursday well-attended lectures were held by the guests of honour at the University in Västerås. On Friday the conferment and inauguration ceremony was held in Västerås Concert Hall.
The Academic Ceremony at MDH took place over two days. On the first day there was the opportunity for all who were interested to attend lectures by the new professors, recipient of the Teaching Prize and also the new honorary doctors. A lot of people chose to listen to the lectures and the questions in conjunction with these gave rise to several exciting discussions. At lunchtime students from the Chamber Music programme gave a concert for the guests of honour and visitors.
On the second day the formal conferment and inauguration ceremony for honorary doctors, doctors and professors, as well as the distribution of prizes and medals was held. This year the holder of the visiting professorship in memory of Alva Myrdal, Sue Dockett, was also welcomed, and apart from taking part in the ceremony she will be meeting staff, students and cooperation partners during the forthcoming weeks.
The Ceremony in Västerås Concert Hall was seen by close on 400 people, who also took part in the subsequent reception, until the time came for invited guests to take their seats at the banquet table. Among the invited guests were the County Governors of Sörmland and Västmanland, the Bishops of Strängnäs and Västerås dioceses, the University Chancellor, the Chair of Västerås City Council, Eskilstuna’s Municipal Director and Västerås City Director, along with the vice-chancellors of six higher education institutions and representatives from the Swedish Parliament, riksdagen, and cooperation partners from both the public and private sectors.
