MDH alumnus wins prize for best promotional product

Christian Runius, a former student at Mälardalen University, recently won first prize for the best promotional product in the form of the credit card holder Thumb.
The prize is awarded annually by Svensk Branschförening för Profil- och Reklamartiklar [‘the Swedish trade association for profiling and commercial products’] as part of a competition called Promotionbiet [‘the promotion bee’].
- For a product designer it’s great to get good feedback from consumers in the street, but receiving such a prize does provide some extra encouragement, says Christian.
During his studies at the School of Innovation, Design and Technology at Mälardalen University, Christian Runius took several courses in innovation and product design. At the University, he started the design company Runius Design. Some years later, Christian founded the company Designindustrin with its product Thumb, which has now won the prize for best promotional product.
- Thumb is a stylish card holder for bank cards, ID cards, travel cards etc. It features an innovative locking device, which helps to keep the cards safe yet still easily accessible. The device holds the cards in place, and you can easily browse them by pushing them up with your thumb, Christian explains.
Thumb was launched in the summer of 2011 in Designtorget’s shops and is now also sold by other shops such as Smart Money Clip, The Outlet and Smarta Saker. Employees and students at Mälardalen University can buy an orange version of the product, with the University logo, at the information desks in Västerås and Eskilstuna.
