You will learn to follow the development of health as well as to identify the factors affecting our health. Sustainable development is a central and recurring theme of the programme.

The programme

You will acquire in-depth knowledge of how everyday habits and factors of equality affect our opportunities of developing sustainable health. You will also learn how preventive and health-promoting work contributes towards a sustainable state of health, and also develops a good understanding of what affects sustainable health. The programme will also give you an increased scientific approach, primarily by a deeper understanding of epidemiological processes, in which your descriptive, analytic and reflective skills will be developed.

You will study Public Health Sciences against the background of the broader area of health and welfare. Issues concerning equality and participation, professional knowledge and development as well as creativity and innovation are in focus. You will also develop your understanding of leadership, groups and organisations as well as evidence-based praxis and evaluation. The programme is given in English and you will read the courses in Health and Welfare together with students from other Master’s programmes and research studies. The programme runs for two years but may be completed after one year with a Master’s degree of 60 credits.

Future and jobs

A Master’s degree in Public Health Sciences, within the field of health and welfare, will make you well prepared to meet the growing complexity facing those today who are working professionally in health, both in the private and public sectors. The programme will prepare you well for public health work at the municipal, regional, national as well as the international levels. It will also give you a good foundation for studying at research level.
