About me – Chaudhary Awais Salman

I am a PhD student within Future energy center (FEC) at MDH. My research is a part of the PyrAD and POLYPO projects. The objective of my PhD is to investigate and design novel processes for the valorization of biomass and municipal solid waste through process integration tools.

My background

I did my double degree master in renewable energy and energy innovation with the specialization in polygeneration and bioenergy from Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden and Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona. Previously I have a bachelor degree in chemical engineering. In addition, I worked for 3.5 years in Pakistan Space and upper atmosphere research commission (SUPARCO)  and one year as a research assistant in Swedish Biofuels. 

Research interests and focus areas

The objective of my PhD is to investigate and design novel processes for the valorization of biomass and municipal solid waste through process integration tools. I am designing integrated biorefineries through the combination of both thermochemical and biochemical treatment of all fractions of waste biomass to produce products which are both technically efficient and economically feasible. Modeling and simulation tools (Aspen plus, Matlab, Python, etc.) are used to evaluate these integrated processes.
