Welcome to MDH and the University Library! Gathered here is the information you need to know before the start of the semester.

How do I borrow books?

Register as a patron

To be able to borrow you must first register as a patron.

I want to see if you have the course literature I need; how do I do this?

Search in the catalogue to see what books we have and whether we have them in. If the book is out on loan you can make a reservation for it. You will get an email when it’s available for collection. A lot of books are available as e-books, so you can download them to your computer, tablet or telephone.

There are reference copies of all course books on the University Library course book shelves. You are not permitted to borrow these books, but you are welcome to read them in the Library.

Primo

If you want to search for books, e-books, articles or journals you can use Primo, the University Library’s search service, in the first instance. Primo is a good place to start when you are going to make a search since the service encompasses several different databases.

How long is the lending period on the books?

  • The lending period is normally 3 weeks.
  • The lending period for books reserved by another patron is 3 weeks.
  • Your loans are automatically renewed if there are no reservations.
