We currently have longer processing times than normal. Our processing time is usually 8 weeks, but due to a high number of applications we cannot estimate the processing time.

When your studies have been completed you may apply for a degree certificate, which certifies that you have acquired knowledge and skills through your studies within a certain field and up to a certain level.
Digital degree
From February 2024, we will start issuing digital degree certificates, not in paper form. The digital degree certificate consists of a PDF file with an e-stamp. When the degree has been issued, a notification is sent to the email address provided in Ladok. You can collect the degree certificate yourself and print it if desired. This can be done repeatedly if necessary.
The degree certificate is e-stamped. This means that the document cannot be changed after the download from Ladok. Verification of the stamp can be done by uploading the document to Ladok's verification page, which is linked on your degree certificate. It is also possible to verify the e-stamp via Adobe. The validity period of the e-stamp is 2 years, after which a new PDF file needs to be downloaded for the degree certificate to have a valid e-stamp.
You will still be able to share information about your degree with, for example, a potential employer. When you share the degree, you get a verification code and a link to a website where information about your degree is displayed.

- Check that all your courses have a final grade in Ladok before sending in your application; otherwise you can contact studenttorget@mdu.se
- Send in your application for a degree certificate via Ladok for Students.

External link. - If you don’t have an active student account at MDU you can log in with eduID, or make an application on a form. Applications for degree certificates at third-cycle (doctorate) level may only be made on a form.
eduID External link. - You apply for a degree certificate at the HEI (higher education institution) where you completed the final course of your study programme, unless the HEIs concerned have agreed otherwise.
- The application is then assessed against national and local degree regulations.

When do I get my degree certificate?
Our goal is that the processing time for complete applications should not exceed two months. Depending on the workload, the processing time varies during the year, which means that during the summer and early autumn there is a longer processing time.

Diploma Supplement
A Diploma Supplement is a document enclosed with your degree certificate from all state universities and university colleges in Sweden. The Supplement describes the study programme and its place in the Swedish education system and will facilitate the recognition abroad of higher education studies, and also make it easier for higher education graduates to move between different countries to study or work. The Diploma Supplement shall be used along with the degree certificate.
Degree regulations
MDU has degree-awarding powers at first-cycle, second-cycle and third-cycle levels. The degree regulations that apply at MDU are laid down in the local System of Qualifications.
It is the Higher Education Authority (UKÄ) who determines which HEIs are given degree-awarding powers. All the general regulations and requirements for degrees are laid down In the Higher Education Ordinance. Then each HEI may decide on local provisions, for example concerning what main fields of study are to be included and how each degree is to be entitled. This means that the degree requirements may differ between the HEIs, but there are always general regulations that apply to all.
On 1 July 2007, major changes in Swedish higher education were made, which for example meant that the Swedish degree system was reformed. For the new local system of qualifications to be able to be applied, at least one course must have been completed after 30 June 2007.
Degree requirements which have ceased to apply
The University may take decisions that a degree be discontinued, and then a trnasitionary period ensues during which it is stated for how long a degree may be awarded before it disappears entirely. Sometimes the requirements for a degree may also be changed, and if the requirements are considered to be more strict there will be a transitionary period here as well regarding for how long a degree may be awarded according to the previous requirements.

Older degrees in teacher education
Students who have read the teacher education programme according to the regulations in force before 1 July 2007 have the right to complete their studies to take a teaching degree according to the older provisions up to and including 30 June 2023 and 30 June 2030 respectively. All courses included in the programme must have been completed and registered in Ladok, and the application for a degree certificate must have reached us no later than:
- 30 June 2023, teaching degree
- 30 June 2030, Compulsory school degree and Upper Secondary school degree.
Rejection of application for a degree certificate
If your application for a degree certificate has been rejected, there is an opportunity to appeal against the decision. The Higher Education Appeals Board is an authority whose task is to assess appeals against certain decisions taken by the University. If your application is rejected you will receive information about how to make an appeal.
