In this course you will learn how statistics can enhance the thrill of discovery, increase your learning, and challenge your assumptions.

You will see how statistics can facilitate the creation of new knowledge, how you can use statistics to understand the results and make decisions and predictions based on data.

About this course

The purpose of the course is to increase your knowledge in the field of applied statistics. The course will illustrate how to reach statistically justified conclusions based on common statistical methods, such as statistical inference, analysis of variance, correlation and regression.

The course will provide opportunities to become familiar with the concepts of understanding statistics and challenging assumptions. During the course we will discuss the role of statistics in engineering and science, statistical thinking and management of large data sets.


What you will learn

  • You will learn how to explain various specific situations where statistical inference may commonly occur and how to implement and interpret confidence intervals, significance tests and ANOVA.
  • We will also discuss, perform and interpret correlations and simple linear regressions.


Entry requirements

  • 120 credits of which 90 credits engineering or natural science and 7,5 credits mathematics.
  • In addition English course A/English course 6 is required.
