Course syllabus - Industrial production and logistics

Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with basic knowledge and abilities in industrial production and logistics. The course focuses on methods and tools for the efficient operation of the value adding system.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course students should be able to: 
1. demonstrate knowledge and understanding for production and logistics and its roles in companies' competiveness, including knowledge of the basic concepts, methods, tools and models
2. demonstrate knowledge of and understanding for the system and process approach and how it can be used to describe and analyze an industrial activity
3. demonstrate knowledge of and understanding for production management and logistics
4. demonstrate knowledge and understanding of common support functions within a production system, such as quality, maintenance, and engineering
5. demonstrate the ability to describe and analyze processes of a value system
6. demonstrate an understanding of and be able to evaluate the efficiency of a value-adding system
7. demonstrate the ability of the group to plan and write a technical report and an oral presentation of the report's content

Specific requirements

Completed courses of 7,5 credits within Product- and Process Development or within Industrial economics and organisation.

Examination

Written assignment (INL1), 4,5 credits, examines the learning objectives 5-7, marks Fail (U) , 3, 4 or 5 
Examination (TEN1), written examination, 3 credits, examines the learning objectives 1-6, marks Fail (U) , 3, 4 or 5

A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.

Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
