Objectives
The objective of the course is for students to obtain further in-depth knowledge in Behavioural Medicine as a scientific domain and Behavioural Medicine applications in assessment, treatment and health education
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students shall be able to:
1. explain and exemplify the scientific basis for Behavioural Medicine and core concepts in Behavioural Medicine
2. apply theories and models in Behavioural Medicine in assessment, treatment, prevention and health education
3. analyse health-related behaviour at the individual, interpersonal, group and organisational level
4. discuss behavioural change and behavioural modification in specific patient-/client cases from the standpoint of theories and models and Behavioural Medicine
Course content
The scientific basis for Behavioural Medicine: theories and models at the individual, interpersonal, group and organisational level
The interaction between humans' everyday behaviours and medical/biological factors in all phases of illness development
Voluntary adaption of behaviours to promote health: health pedagogical tools
Applications in Physiotherapy with specialisation in Behavioural Medicine
Clinical reasoning from a Behavioural Medicine perspective
Specific requirements
A Bachelor's degree within one of the subject domains of Physiotherapy, Medical Science, Psychology, Caring Science with Specialisation in Nursing, Nursing Science, or the equivalent. In addition Swedish B/Swedish 3 and English A/English 6 are required. For courses given in English, exemption is made from Swedish B/Swedish 3.
Examination
INL1, hand-in assignment, 7.5 credits
Grades Fail (U), Pass (G) or Pass with Distinction (VG)
A student who has a certificate from MDU regarding a disability has the opportunity to submit a request for supportive measures during written examinations or other forms of examination, in accordance with the Rules and Regulations for Examinations at First-cycle and Second-cycle Level at Mälardalen University (2020/1655). It is the examiner who takes decisions on any supportive measures, based on what kind of certificate is issued, and in that case which measures are to be applied.
Suspicions of attempting to deceive in examinations (cheating) are reported to the Vice-Chancellor, in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance, and are examined by the University’s Disciplinary Board. If the Disciplinary Board considers the student to be guilty of a disciplinary offence, the Board will take a decision on disciplinary action, which will be a warning or suspension.
