Student from Financial Engineering is the MDH Global Swede 2021

This year, Thi Diu Cáp from the Master’s programme in Financial Engineering was awarded the prestigious Global Swede diploma during today’s ceremony with the Minister for Foreign Trade and Nordic Affairs, Anna Hallberg. Hereby Thi Diu Cáp is officially the MDH Global Swede 2021.
Each participating university gets to nominate one student to receive the Global Swede diploma, and just like last year the ceremony was digital. Thi Diu Cáp was nominated partly thanks to her “high level of attentiveness, dedication, and a well-established work ethic” as well as her “excellent academic records” as it says in the motivation.
Before the ceremony, our new MDH Global Swede answered some questions so that we can get to know her better.

Who is our Global Swede 2021, please tell us a bit about yourself and your background?
I am Thi Diu Cáp and I come from Vietnam. I have a great enthusiasm for working with business data and the application of Programming, Maths, and Statistics in capturing business data in ingenious ways. I consider studying the Financial Engineering master program at MDH is one of my life-change decisions. I have had invaluable experiences, challenges, and joy as a Financial Engineering student. Not only studying hard, but I also enjoy being involved in campus activities, becoming a responsible student and a better person.
Besides, I am an extrovert and open-minded person. I enjoy collaborating with my awesome classmates in my course projects. We like discussing diverse topics including our lectures, our career destinations and also some casual topics such as our international student life in Sweden.
How are your thoughts on being an MDH Global Swede and how would you like to make the most of it?
Proud, happy, and extremely excited. Many feelings came to me at once when my university informed me about the nomination.
Being an MDH Global Swede, I believe that I could spread my prospects about, first of all, the program that I have studied at MDH as well as the education environment in my university to other students who are curious about this new and highly applicable program - Financial Engineering. Secondly, I can share with them my experiences of student life in Sweden. How the Swedish environment, culture, and education impact my thoughts and then my life. I feel that I grew up to be very strong and independent during my 2 years of being a master’s student in Sweden.
Where do you picture yourself in 10 years?
I strongly believe in the value of high technology applications in solving many challenging problems in the nowadays advanced financial world. Thus, I hope that I will soon contribute positively to society with all skills and knowledge that I gain through my academic life in Sweden. In the next 10 years, I want to master the professional skills in developing programs with applications in Finance.
Do you have any tips/comments to your current or future fellow students?
The education will definitely give you an in-depth knowledge of mathematics and finance, then prepare you a good base to land into your dream career. However, student life is not only about studying hard and seamlessly improving your skills to make your dream come true, but student life is also about friendships, so treasure this special period of your youth. I wish you all will cherish your wonderful student time while making it meaningful in your own way.

Global Swede is part of the work done by the government’s and the Swedish Institute to build long-term relationships with international students in Sweden. The purpose is to create multicultural networks across borders intended to contribute to Swedish foreign trade and benefit the work of reaching future solutions.
