New US cooperation within environmental engineering and management

Mälardalen University and the Colleges of Business, and Science and Engineering at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, USA, are working together to encourage students to collaborate online. In the first stage of this partnership, students in environmental engineering and management classes in Sweden and Texas will work in virtual teams to complete joint assignments online as part of their required curricula.

- We are very pleased with this virtual educational collaboration with Mälardalen University, since it will give our students an opportunity to work closely with students from a different culture and educational system, says Dr. Rob Konopaske, Director of the Institute for Global Business in the McCoy College of Business, Texas State University.

Internationalisation is a strategic part of Mälardalen University’s operations, where cooperation in research projects with academia and industry all over the world plays an important role.

- Making it possible for our students to collaborate with students at Texas State University is another important step for us and our international partnerships, says Eva Maaninen-Olsson, Senior Lecturer and Head of Division at School of Business Society and Engineering at Mälardalen University.

Eva Maaninen-Olsson is one of the people responsible for the new concept.

- This new concept of Internationalisation at home is an environmentally friendly and affordable way of supporting global cooperation,” says Eva Maaninen-Olsson.

- Our new partnership with Texas State University is proof that our education and research in environmental engineering is at the front line and is characterised by an international perspective,” says Monica Odlare, professor in Environmental engineering at Mälardalen University.

- The FutureE project, which is financed by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation and contains online-based courses on the Internet in areas such as Environmental and Energy Engineering, has made it possible to offer our courses online, even to international students. This was very important for our collaboration with Texas State University,” says Monica Odlare.
