Open Access

Open Access creates possibilities for easier access and offers stability and a foundation for future research.

OA is becoming the norm

Open Access (OA) – publishing scientific results with free online access is becoming a norm for dissemination of scholarly information.

Requirements for free access

Free access to scholarly publications is required on both a national and a European level. Requirements come from researchers, universities, funders and government or EU agencies. OA creates possibilities for easier access and offers stability and a foundation for future research.

The MDH publishing policy also encourages OA publication.

Gold OA or Green OA?

When discussing OA two different approaches are often mentioned, namely Gold OA and Green OA. Green OA means publishing in a traditional subscription journal, and depositing a copy in an open repository, such as DiVA. Gold OA means publishing in a fully OA journal, generating income by charging the authors of accepted manuscripts so-called article processing charges or fees (APC).

Parallell publishing

You can publish in a traditional subscription journal and deposit a copy in an open repository, such as DiVA. To find out what copyright agreements are used by different publishers, use the database SHERPA/RoMEO

Financing for OA-publication

Here at MDH we encourage you as an employee of ours to publish in Open Access journals. From 2019 onwards you can apply for grants for the publication fee.
