EDUCATION
The programme offers a one-year curriculum comprising a total of 60 credits. The students will study individually, discuss the course content in seminars and also work in groups with other students. The students will develop their ability to exchange, critically approach and appraise knowledge and research at a scientific level.
Studies in qualitative and quantitative methods will make it possible for students to become good research consumers and also producers. By carrying out their degree projects, the students will develop their ability to apply a research process in practice.
HEALTH CARE EDUCATION
The students will develop their understanding of the theoretical and practical pedagogical principles that prevail in the field of nursing and public health education. The aim is that students gain a broad understanding of the evolution in the educational field and together examine the challenges for educators in the health care area that exist in times of globalization. The courses are also designed to increase students’ team working and leadership skills in health care education.
SCIENCE OF PUBLIC HEALTH
The tackling of social and gender-related inequality in health is one of the key issues for sustainable development in health and welfare. Therefore, differences in health due to gender and social position, as well as concepts and principles for tackling such inequalities, will be discussed. The implementation of measures that promote health at a local level and the interface between decision-making and implementation are crucial for understanding empowered health and welfare. Throughout the courses, there will be insights in modern research work in each field. Specific settings for health work, e.g. schools and health care of children, women and the elderly will be in focus. Comparative studies between Sweden and the students’ native countries will be encouraged in the individual tasks during the courses.
FUTURE AND CAREER
Your future work can for example be university lecturer or health manager and support your current work in the growing international health care sector. Students in caring science will gain the prerequisites to develop and perform evidence-based nursing in clinical settings and in nursing education.
A profound knowledge of public health will also be a key component in all future careers involving the promotion of health and well-being, nationally and internationally. Students with a Master of Science (one year) in Caring Science with Specialization in nursing or Public Health Science are qualified to apply for doctoral studies in Sweden.
