Employment as an assistant professor at Mälardalen University requires a Master’s degree relevant to the position sought, formal studies in the realm of learning and teaching in higher education (or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way), and documented pedagogical skills.
Applicants for the position of assistant professor must give proof of the teaching skills required for the job and, unless there are specific reasons to the contrary, have acquired ten weeks’ worth of formal qualifications within the realm of learning and teaching in higher education. The applicant must be pedagogically skillful with respect to the planning, teaching and evaluation of courses, as well as supervision and examination. Teaching skills must be well-documented, so that they can be properly assessed.
Without formal qualifications in the realm of learning and teaching in higher education or equivalent knowledge, the appointment will be for a maximum of one year, with a possible extension of another year. If the formal qualifications are acquired during the appointment term, the position can, upon request, be made a permanent one.
For further details, see chapter 4 of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance (SFS 1993:100).
A good knowledge of financial mathematics and the ability to teach the subject in English, especially when it comes to the theoretical presentation and practical application of stochastic processes, are required for the job – as are good insights into the workings of the financial sector. It is preferred that the job announced here be combined with an employment in that sector. It is important that the applicant be familiar with, and able to use, financial mathematics software, in particular Front Arena or similar, in order to develop financial applications that can be used in degree projects.
In your application, please also give a detailed account of your pedagogical qualifications in the form of teaching experience, course coordination, the development of study materials, pedagogical development projects, and course evaluations, as well as a description of the pedagogical outlook and principles that inform your teaching practice.
