M-TERM - Mälardalen University Team of Educational Researchers in Mathematics
M-TERM is engaged in research in mathematics education. Our current studies are funded through grants from the Swedish Research Council, the Bank of Sweden Tercentenary Foundation, and "Samhällskontraktet" (a joint venture of the university and two municipalities). Our research deals with investigations and interventions in mathematics classrooms from pre-school class to university level. We aim at integrating applied problems with theoretical work. Thus our activities span from developing teaching practices together with teachers to elaborations of theoretical approaches to the conceptualization and study of mathematical classrooms. Key areas of research include:
- Comparison of mathematics teacher educations in Sweden and Finland,
- Large scale design research together with municipalities,
- Teaching mathematics through problem solving in secondary school,
- Analytical approaches for conceptualizing classroom contexts,
- Proof and argumentation in school mathematics and higher education.
Much of the research of M-TERM is conducted in collaboration with other researchers. Partnerships in Sweden include Linnaeus University, Umeå University, Stockholm University, and Malmö University. International partners include University of Oxford and University of Cambridge (UK), University of Helsinki (Finland), Tallinn University (Estonia), University of Agder (Norway), and University of Missouri (USA).
