Studies at post-graduate level give you the knowledge and skills required to conduct research independently. Studies at post-graduate level are the highest form of study in the Swedish education system and you can take two types of degree: a licentiate (80 credits) and a doctorate (160 credits).
Since 2001, Mälardalen University has had the right to award postgraduate degrees in technology. This means that the University is allowed to admit doctoral students to post-graduate studies in the field of technology. The University also has post-graduate students active in the humanities, the natural sciences, the social sciences, and caring sciences. These post-graduate students conduct their research at the University and are enrolled as post-graduate students at a higher education institution that holds the right to award postgraduate degrees in the area of research in question.
Mälardalen University has about 230 active doctoral students at the present time. In 2006, 21 doctoral students were awarded doctor’s degrees and 12 were awarded licentiate degrees.
