    Mälardalen University increasingly popular among students

    Now that the application statistics are ready it can be seen that eleven per cent more people have applied to Mälardalen University compared to the spring term 2010. This is an increase that is considerably greater than the national average, which is three per cent.

    In the end of September a delegation from the Thai Ministry of Health visited Mälardalen University in Eskilstuna. The delegation consisted of the State Secretary along with eleven other dignitaries from the Ministry.

    Mälardalen University’s partnerships with counties and municipalities elicit international interest

    Gudrun Paulsdottir, International Advisor to the President and project manager at Mälardalen University, is the new president of the European Association for International Education (EAIE), the largest organization in Europe working with the internationalization of higher education. - When I represent EAIE, I represent Mälardalen University too, of course. When I talk about the university’s active collaboration with companies, counties and municipalities in our region, many people are impressed. Mälardalen University really is a trendsetter in this respect, says Gudrun.

    Dancing robot swan triggers emotions

    The Dying Swan is sometimes moving smoothly and gently, sometimes in a dramatic and fiery manner, as Tchaikovsky´s majestic music from the ballet Swan Lake is playing. Yet this is no ordinary ballet dancer, but a robot in the form of a swan, created at Mälardalen University and choreographed by professional dancer Åsa Unander-Scharin.

    Cathrine Åsklint, 26, is the new chairman of Mälardalen Student Union. For Cathrine the Student Union fills an essential role in its work to improve the students' situation. During her term as chairman she strives to clarify, further develop and promote the organization.

    Nursing Teachers from Thailand students at Mälardalen University

    The Thai Health Ministry has given nearly 30 care teachers from Thailand the opportunity to study one year at Mälardalen University in Eskilstuna. This week they begin their studies with a view to further educate themselves academically in their teaching profession. The goal is to return to Thailand with a master's degree in caring/nursing science.

    New project will benefit both Swedish industry and highly educated immigrants

    While employers announce skills shortages in some areas, Sweden has many highly educated immigrants who may well be in possession of the desired skills, but never get the chance to show what they can do. Through a new project, run by Mälardalen University in collaboration with private businesses, the Swedish Public Employment Service, as well as Eskilstuna and Västerås Municipalities, immigrant academics will now get that chance.
