Japan next when MDH seeks more research cooperation

The Innofacture Research School at MDH wants to develop its international research cooperation. Now they have their sights set on Japan.

Erik Flores Garcia, PhD student.

- It’s a country that is prominent in research and manufacturing from an international perspective, and therefore we would like to establish research cooperation with universities and companies there, says Erik Flores Garcia, doctoral student at MDH, and one of those who will be representing the research school in Japan.

Right now there are 16 representatives, consisting of doctoral students and researchers from Innofacture, in Tokyo to present the concept behind the research school and the research conducted there. At the same time they will also be taking a closer look at how researchers and companies benefit from one another in Japan.

- The idea is that we will be able to learn through workshops about one another’s research and findings. We will be visiting three universities and several manufacturing companies such as Toyota and Mitsubishi. We will be meeting researchers who are in the forefront in Japan, but they will also be able to see what we are doing in Sweden. In this way we can learn from one another, says Erik Flores Garcia.

During our visit in Japan, representatives from MDH will be presenting their research projects within the field of production development. Erik Flores Garcia is involved in a project that is taking place in cooperation with Volvo Construction Equipment, where together with his colleagues he is working on producing simulation models which can predict various scenarios.

- The models are used by manufacturing companies who are planning big changes in production in their factories. With the aid of the simulation models, companies can get to know what the consequences will be even before a change is implemented, and in this way evaluate whether the changes meet the companies’ strategic goals, he says.

During week 37 it will be possible to follow Erik Flores Garcia and MDH’s visit to Tokyo on Instagram.
