Design Process of Flexible Assembly Systems
Objectives
- Contribute with knowledge to the understanding of the process of designing flexible assembly systems.
- Characterize flexible assembly systems and analyse how the assembly system design process is affected by the demand of flexibility and how it is considered.
Current status
- A literature review about assembly system design and flexibility is in progress.
- A descriptive study of the current assembly system in regard of flexibility as well as a case study regarding flexibility definitions, needs, enablers and challenges has been done.
- Participation in an on-going industrial project where an assembly system setup that can handle different product variants and volume is analyzed.
- A plan and design of future research studies is under development.
Planned activities
Q3,Q4 2013: Literature study and development of case studies in order to characterize flexibility in assembly systems.
