About the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering

IDT, the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering, operating in both Eskilstuna and Västerås, is one of MDH’s four Schools. There are a good 1,000 full-time students here, and around 200 staff.

We educate students to become, among other things, innovators, entrepreneurs, illustrators, text designers, communications officers, network technicians and engineers in product design, production and logistics, robotics, computer science and aeronautical engineering.

Within our School we have more than 100 staff members conducting research or pursuing research studies in, among other things, Embedded Systems, Intelligent Sensor Systems or Innovation and Product Realisation. Our teachers and researchers have qualifications and professional backgrounds such as M.Sc. degrees in Engineering, Business and Economics, and psychologists, artists, industrial designers, information designers, set designers, actors, music teachers, linguists, ergonomists, innovators and entrepreneurs. Many of these have experience of work and entrepreneurship in private industry.

IDT strives to increase cooperation between our various subjects and fields of research. It is an advantage to have several disciplinary domains under one roof. We are finding more and more projects in which we can work together in different ways across the borders of subjects and fields of study in education as well as research.

The School works in close cooperation with industry in both first-cycle education and research. We have partner companies and carry out student projects, degree projects and research projects, with industry as the purchasers of our results. Our research cooperates with the surrounding community in several ways, partly with companies such as Volvo CE, ABB Robotics, Ericsson, Scania, CC Systems, Volvo Cars, Bombardier, Alvenius, Deva Mecaneyes, Level 21, Propeller, Vilstagruppen, Stora Enso, Holmen Paper, Robotdalen, Marinen, Riksutställningar, to name just a few, and partly with several universities nationally as well as internationally, daily newspapers, county councils and associations as well as others.
