About me

I work as Professor Emeritus of sociology at the School of Health, Care and Social Welfare at Mälardalen University. I have also worked as a Senior Lecturer and Director of studies for the sociology subject since 2000.

I took the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree at Addis Ababa University in 1973. My PhD, I took at Uppsala University in 1988. Then I worked as a researcher and teacher at the same university between 1991 and 2002. I was accepted as an Associate professor of sociology in 1999.

The main focus of my research is political and historical sociology, with emphasis on international migration and ethnic conflicts and then with a special focus on Africa.
