Studies at post-graduate level in the field of Health and Welfare

Studies at post-graduate level in the field of Health and Welfare at Mälardalen University is a new doctoral programme, which places the focus on a field of knowledge in which research in Health and Welfare meet. In this multidisciplinary field of knowledge several different professions from different subjects interact. Studies at post-graduate level in the field of Health and Welfare has both a health and a welfare perspective, which is reflected in the composition of courses and theses.

Participation/gender perspective, professional development/practical relevance as well as innovative approaches are central concepts in studies at post-graduate level in the field of Health and Welfare. We consider these concepts to be important in the goal of strengthening the patient’s/client’s/user’s capability to influence and become involved in their life situation. The research will also contribute to the knowledge base of the professions and support innovation and development in the area of health and welfare.

Studies at post-graduate level involves four years of full-time studies which culminate in a doctoral degree. The studies may be pursued for everything from half to full time. The doctoral students’ research projects at Mälardalen University in the field of Health and Welfare are often conducted in cooperation with county councils, municipalities and international cooperation partners.

Subject

The subject is Care Sciences in the field of Health and Welfare with the degree  Doctor of Philosophy in Care Sciences, within Health and Welfare. Work is in progress to establish the subjects of Social Work and Public Health Sciences in the field of Health and Welfare.

Exampled of specialisations in the doctoral projects

Examples of specialisations in the doctoral projects are: psychiatric care, multi-disease elderly people, youth pregnancies in Thailand, prevention of falls among the elderly, follow-up of premature births, alcohol abuse, participation in cases of hearing impairment, and health technology.
