For students

As a student and a library patron there are many things you might be wondering about, here are answers to some of your questions!

Library card = university card

To be able to borrow and reserve books you need to register as a patron at the library.
  1. Open the Library catalogue Book-it
  2. Change language to "English"
  3. Click "New patron?"
  4. Fill out the form
  5. Contact the library information desk
  6. Show your university card to the staff

How to Find books in our library

Use the online catalogue to search for books at the Mälardalen University Library.


Type a few words from the title, the author's name or a subject word in the search box.

Items marked with a green tick in the hitlist are available for loan. Click on each title for more information on where to find the book.

The Library Catalogue

Each book has a call number, for example: "G 51" or "2013-0001".
The first example means that this is the 51st book on shelf G. The second example means that the book is placed after the year of acquisition, as the first book on that shelf.

The library also has several other special collections with other types of call numbers. please ask the staff if you have trouble finding them.

The book might be shelved at the other campus. There are book transports between the campuses every day.

Off-campus access to electronic resources

To use our electronic databases and other resources when you are off campus you need to log in with your user-ID and password .

Group study rooms

In Eskilstuna you will find group study rooms at the far left end of the library. First come first serve principle!

In Västerås there are no group study rooms in the library building, but there are plenty of them all around campus.

Silent reading rooms

On both campuses there are silent zones and and silent reading rooms.
