Computers

How do I access the library computers?

To login on a library computer, use your MDH account.

If you are neither a student nor staff you can get a temporary login at Studenttorget.

Copying and printing

How do I use the printers in the library?

To be able to use the University’s printing service, eduPrint, you need to have an MDH card and a PayEx account.

I am an international student, how do I register an account with PayEx?

Click "Create an account" on the PayEx sign-up page and enter your personal data. Select your nationality in the drop-down lists provided. If your nationality is other than Swedish, Norwegian or Danish, you will receive an e-mail in which you will be asked to send in a copy of your passport and a certificate that confirms that you are registered as a student. Information on how to proceed will be provided in the e-mail.

 

How to do to refill money so that I can print and copy?

Log in to your PayEx account to refill money.

 

Do you have a scanner?

Yes. You can scan to your email, home catalogue or the cloud.

Library hall

Are there group rooms in the library?

In Eskilstuna you will find group rooms to the left in the library nearby the silent reading room.

In Västerås there are no group rooms in the library. However, there are plenty of them all around the university.

How do I make a group room reservation?

You can make an online-reservation through Kronox . You will find the group rooms in the library listed under the letter F.
 

How do I find books at the library?

Most of the library’s books are organized by year and number. The first book is marked with serial number 2013-0001, the second one with 2013-0002 etc.

Older books have a letter and a number. The books are organized in 23 departments: A-X. The books are ordered in numerical order. E.g. V 4523 or Q 1723.

Some collections are organized in other ways, e.g. course reference books and fiction.

Don't hesitate to ask the staff if there is something you can't find in the library!

 

Borrowing

How do I apply for a library card?

You have to register as a new patron .

 

Can I borrow books although I am not a student?

Yes. First register as a new patron .

Then contact a member of the staff and show your ID card.

 

For how long can I borrow a book?

The loan period is three weeks.

Books that are requested by other patrons have a loan period of two weeks.

 

How do I renew my current loan?

Book are automatically renewed for 6 months, if no one else has requested it. If your loan is not renewed, you will receive an e-mail.

 

I have forgotten my PIN code, how can I get a new one?

What if I return the book too late?

The overdue fine is 5 SEK per book and day.

The overdue fine for day loans are 50 SEK per book and day.

 

Can you help me borrow a book from another library?

A publication not to be found at the University Library can be ordered as an interlibrary loan from other libraries both in Sweden and elsewhere. Article copies also count as interlibrary loans. This service is just for MDH students and MDH staff.

Please note that a publication which the library itself stocks (as an e-book or if it is out on loan) is never requested from another library.

How do I find out that a book I have requested is ready for pick-up?

The library will send you an e-mail when a book is ready for pick-up. You can also check if a book is on hold for you by logging in to My library account on the library website.

 

How do I download or read an e-book?

If you are a student or a member of staff at MDH you can use our collection of e-books. Search for them in our Discovery-service. Instruction how to download e-books.

Can I borrow magazines and journals?

No, you can only read our printed journals in the library.

How do I search the library databases from home?

If you are a student, researcher or member of staff at MDH you can access most of the library's databases from home. Sign in with your MDH account.

 

Can I use the e-resources at MDH even if I am not a student?

If you are neither a student nor staff you can get a temporary login at Studenttorget.

 

Can you help me find information for an assignment?

Yes, our subject librarians give tutorials in information retrieval for students and staff at MDH. During the tutorial, you and the librarian together, chose information sources and search methods suitable for your assignment. Book a tutorial.
